Two Dead, 77-Year-Old Hospitalized After Maryland House Fire (Developing)

A devastating house fire in Harford County claimed two lives and left a 77-year-old man hospitalized, authorities said.

The blaze broke out around 8:15 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, at a home on Darlington Avenue in Aberdeen.

Responding officers from the Aberdeen Police Department were the first to arrive and found the injured man outside the home, where they were advised there were two family members still inside.

Despite their efforts, officers were forced back by heavy smoke and flames.

It took 70 firefighters from Aberdeen Fire Department and Aberdeen Proving Ground Fire & Emergency Services more than an hour to bring the fire under control, officials said.

Once inside, crews located the two victims, whose identities have not yet been released.

The 77-year-old man was rushed to Bayview Medical Center for treatment, while an Aberdeen officer was taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with teams still working to determine where and how the blaze started.
